With Deep Sorrow

We announce the passing of Professor Waldemar Głaz

The Faculty of Physics at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań regrets to announce that Professor Waldemar Głaz, PhD, passed away on March 21, 2025.

Professor Głaz was an esteemed member of our Department of Nonlinear Optics, specializing in theoretical physics and molecular spectroscopy. Throughout his distinguished career at our university, which began after completing his physics degree at AMU in 1977, he made significant contributions to research on interaction-induced polarizability, molecular spectroscopy, and nonlinear properties of gas mixtures. In the last decade, he conducted intensive research in collaboration with physicists from the University of Patras in Greece, focusing primarily on collisional light scattering.

Born on September 20, 1953, in Szczecin, Professor Głaz received his doctoral degree in 1988 and his habilitation in 2003 at Adam Mickiewicz University. During his academic career, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Manitoba in Canada (1990-1992) and worked as a research associate at the University of Manitoba and the University of Guelph (1992-1995). His international research collaborations also included visits to France and Sweden.

As an active member of the Polish Physical Society, Professor Głaz generously shared his knowledge and experience with generations of students and young scientists, inspiring them to explore fundamental questions in physics.

Funeral Information

The funeral service will take place on Friday, April 4th at 11:20 AM at the Miłostowo Cemetery funeral home, accessible from Warszawska Street. Attendees may gather inside the funeral home from 11:00 AM.

The burial will take place at the nearby urn field.

Family Requests

Due to the small size of the tombstone and plot, as well as ecological considerations, the family kindly asks participants to refrain from bringing flowers and wreaths (except for a possible bouquet/wreath from the university).

Memorial Contributions

Instead of flowers, the family suggests making donations to the SOS Children’s Villages Association in Poland (Stowarzyszenie SOS Wioski Dziecięce w Polsce), which Professor Głaz had supported for many years.

We sincerely sympathize with Professor Głaz’s family, friends, colleagues, and students.

The ISIQ community at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań
