In the initial part of the talk there will be a background material on individual and collective spins, collective spin states and squeezing of them. We will also talk on different spin squeezing mechanism including one axis twisting (OAT) and two axis countertwisting (TACT) spin squeezing models [1]. The spin squeezing is used in quantum metrology, such as for increasing sensitivity of atomic clocks [2]. Subsequently we will discuss possibilities to produce spin squeezing for spinful fermionic atoms in optical lattices. We will show that by applying laser radiation one can produce not only OAT but also TACT spin squeezing mechanisms [3,4], the latter TACT model providing better squeezing. Finally we will mention an ongoing research on producing non-classical spin states for an ensemble of atoms containing a larger spin, such as for strontium atoms characterised by spin 9/2 [5].
