Spin waves in an altermagnet: between ferro- and antiferro

The recently introduced new class of magnetic materials, altermagnets, combine the large spin splitting of electronic bands typical of ferromagnets with the fast intrinsic magnetic dynamics of antiferromagnets. In this talk I will discuss specific magnetic properties of altermagnets, such as magnon splitting and anisotropic stiffness. I will also discuss peculiarities of the magnetic dynamics in a hematite whose symmetry is consistent with altermagnetism.
